A hiatus hernia repair is a surgical procedure aimed at fixing a problem where the upper part of the stomach protrudes into the chest cavity through an opening in the diaphragm called the hiatus.
During surgery, the surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen or chest and uses special instruments to reposition the affected portion of the stomach back into the abdominal cavity, the surgeon then closes the opening in the diaphragm to prevent the stomach from becoming displaced again in the future. Risk factors of this surgery can be discussed with your doctor at consultation.
