Oesophagectomy

An oesophagectomy refers to the removal of part or all of the oesophagus which is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach.

This procedure typically performed to treat conditions such as oesophageal cancer or severe damage to the oesophagus due to conditions like barretts oesophagus or trauma

During the surgery, the affected portion of the oesophagus is removed, and then the remaining part of the oesophagus is connected to the stomach or another part of the digestive system to allow food and liquid to pass through. This surgery may be done through open surgery, where a large incision is made in the chest or abdomen, or minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy or robotic-assisted surgery.

Risk and recovery process will be discussed with your doctor at your consultation.
