Gastric band removal

Gastric band removal surgery is a procedure to remove a gastric band that was previously placed around the stomach to help with weight loss.

The gastric band is a device placed around the upper part of the stomach to create a smaller stomach pouch which aims to help limit food intake and promotes weight loss.

If the band causes complications, becomes ineffective, or if the patient no longer wishes to have it, gastric band removal surgery may be performed. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the gastric band, allowing the stomach to return to its normal size and function. Risks and processes will be discussed further with your doctor at consultation.
