Also known as mini-gastric bypass or loop gastric bypass, SAGB is a type of weight loss surgery that involves creating a small stomach pouch and bypassing a portion of the small intestine. This procedure helps in reducing food intake and absorption of calories, resulting in weight loss.
During this procedure, the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch by dividing the stomach into two sections, similar to the first step of traditional gastric bypass surgery. However, unlike traditional gastric bypass, which involves creating both a small stomach pouch and a bypassed section of the small intestine, SAGB involves creating only a single connection (anastomosis) between the newly formed stomach pouch and a lower portion of the small intestine.
